Or you want to know how and if you can recycle your mattress when it reaches the end of its life. That will soon be very easy thanks to the <b>Digital Product Passport (DPP)<\/b>. The DPP is a digital document linked to your mattress that contains all the important information about origin, materials, sustainability and recycling. Starting in 2029, this passport will become mandatory for mattresses in Europe. For example: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><b>Materials and composition<\/b>: what materials were used, such as foam, textiles, metal springs and so much more.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Origin and production process<\/b>: where and how was the mattress made?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Sustainability features<\/b>: How long does the mattress last, what is recyclable and what is the carbon footprint?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Maintenance and repair tips<\/b>: <a href=\"https:\/\/mindthebed.com\/en\/how-to-remove-stains-from-mattress\/?preview_id=4637&#038;preview_nonce=e50bb1a81f&#038;preview=true&#038;_thumbnail_id=4652\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">How best to maintain, replace parts and repair your mattress<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>End of life cycle<\/b>: How can the mattress be recycled or reused?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">This information is standardized and consistently provided so that everyone in the chain &#8211; from manufacturer to consumer like you &#8211; speaks the same language and uses the same definitions. This means products should last longer, but also be more easily repairable and recyclable. The DPP is an important part of the so-called<b>&#8220;Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation&#8221; (ESPR)<\/b>, which came into force in July 2024. This ESPR aims to make products more sustainable and reduce their impact on the environment.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">By introducing the DPP, the EU aims to achieve the following:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Provide <b>transparency and traceability<\/b> across the product life cycle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Better inform consumers<\/b> so they can make more sustainable choices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Reduce waste<\/b> by using products longer and recycling better.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Require manufacturers and vendors to<\/b> market more sustainable products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading MsoNormal\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_will_the_Digital_Product_Passport_become_mandatory\"><\/span><b>When will the Digital Product Passport become mandatory?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The implementation of the DPP is gradual. For mattresses, the DPP will become mandatory from <b>2029<\/b>. This applies to all new mattresses entering the European market. There is a transition period, with large companies being the first to comply with the obligation. Medium-sized companies are likely to get a delay, until probably 2030, and small companies are largely exempted for the time being to avoid unnecessary administrative burdens.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Although you can expect &#8211; or, in our opinion, better hope &#8211; that a lot of companies will start using it soon<\/strong>. Because this passport makes life easier. The DPP allows you to find a lot more than the legal data. At least if the products are also &#8220;enriched&#8221; with this information. And let us now plead for that with all producers!    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">This way, you no longer have to search for the size of your mattress or get immediate tips on maintenance or additional interesting products that you can also purchase through your favorite store.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>Practical advantages<\/b><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><b>Access to information<\/b>: You can access the DPP through a QR code or RFID tag on the mattress, an app or website.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Buy more consciously<\/b>: You can choose a mattress with a longer lifespan or better recyclability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Answers:<\/strong> Slept wonderfully in your B&amp;B or hotel and want to know what mattress you had? Scan the DPP and you&#8217;ll know exactly the answer. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Additional services<\/b>: Imagine you sleep badly and want to use the services of a sleep coach.
